Jalen Rose Leadership Academy offers Lawrence Tech robotics program

Published by February issue of eNew & Information, The Center for Charter Schools

Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, working with the Center and the A.G.B.U. Alex & Marie Manoogian School, can now offer a robotics program through Lawrence Technological University to its students. The Academy opened in the fall of 2011 with 120 ninth-graders, with plans to add one grade per year until grades 9-12 are offered. Knowing the school was new, leaders at the Southfield-based Manoogian School worked with the Center to help get the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy involved in a robotics program it already offers to its own students.

ARISE! (Autonomous Robotics Institute for Students and Educators), which is organized by Lawrence Tech, gives students in grades 4-12 a variety of opportunities to explore robotics including workshops, projects and competitions. The university even offers a bachelor’s degree in robotics engineering, so students who become passionate about the rapidly-growing field have a nearby option to continue their education once they finish high school.
